The 2025 Ford Mustang is a series of American cars produced by Ford. Ford has delivered the seventh installment of its storied Mustang muscle car with reworked familiar styling, revised chassis hardware, an all-new interior, and two upgraded powertrains. The long-term fate of its closest rivals, the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger remains in question. The 2025 Mustang continues to be powered by a 5.0-liter V-8 engine, this time upgraded to 480 horsepower. The 315-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost is also an improvement over its predecessor, but only marginally.

Both powertrains come with a 10-speed automatic transmission, but only the V-8 can be optioned with a six-speed manual transmission. Hardtop coupe and soft-top convertible body styles are also available. The Mustang’s rethought cockpit and reinforced engine options keep the muscle car story alive. The new design brings some much-needed updates to the Mustang. Among the many styling and powertrain changes are new offerings for those in need of real speed. Both the Mustang GT and EcoBoost models will offer the optional Performance Package trim upgrade.

The Performance Package adds a front strut tower brace, Torsen limited-slip differential, wider wheels and tires, larger Brembo brakes, and MagneRide active damping suspension. Optional Recaro buckets and active exhaust are also available for those who care about performance. Additionally, Ford offers a Performance Electronic Parking Brake, which is similar to a traditional lever parking brake and is said to make the Mustang easier to drift.  Available a few months after the new Mustang’s debut, the GT California Special appearance package has been added for the Mustang GT Premium coupe or convertible models.

Inside, the car is more comfortable than it looks, and the seats are quite supportive. The configurable display can be customized to suit the needs of most red, white, and blue patriots, with selectable colors, indicators, and even a “calm” screen that shows only the most essential details. Base Mustangs come with cloth seats and microsuede vinyl inserts, while the Premium level adds stitched pieces from the door trim to the dash. The Mustang GT has leather inserts. Ford has also introduced a Remote Rev function that allows the car’s engine to rev up with a simple click from the key fob, while you admire the sounds coming from outside the car.

An important area of improvement for the new Mustang is its interior equipment. The 13.2-inch infotainment screen, which uses Ford’s Sync 4 software, flows from the instrument cluster to the center of the car behind a curved glass panel. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard with this system, and an optional wireless smartphone charger helps drivers reduce the clutter of charging cables. Amazon Alexa and Ford Streaming allow voice commands to replace knob turning or button presses, and every Mustang comes with a Ford Power-Up software feature that allows over-the-air updates for subsequent software and vehicle function improvements.

2025 Ford Mustang : Engine

The new Mustang comes standard with an upgraded turbocharged 315-hp 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine with 350 pound-feet of torque. The EcoBoost Mustang has a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the Mustang GT, which continues to offer the 5.0-liter V-8 engine, has a six-speed manual standard. The last generation’s Coyote V-8 produced 450 horsepower with 420 pound-feet of torque, the new unit is rated for 480 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. New Mustang steering feel and feedback is an obvious area of improvement.

MagnaRide shock absorbers absorb pavement swells and expansion joints without disrupting life in the cockpit. The all-new Mustang Dark Horse model is a track-focused upgrade based on the GT, using a 500-hp 5.0-liter V-8. The MT-82 six-speed manual found in the GT comes with the six-speed manual Tremec TR-3160 transmission from the Dark Horse, Mach 1, and the discontinued Shelby GT350. The Ford Mustang Dark Horse comes standard with 19-inch Pirelli P Zero PZ4s, but Ford’s optional Handling package replaces that rubber with labeled Pirelli Trofeo RS tires. The Mustang Dark Horse shined in our latest 0-to-150 speed test, coming to a stop in just 29.7 seconds, with the Toyota Supra 3.0 coming to a stop quicker at 150.

The Ford Mustang,  EPA measured the 4-cylinder  is good for 22-mpg city and 33-mpg highway. Adding the optional Performance Package erodes some of the fuel economy for the sake of power, but not dramatically (21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway). The last-generation Mustang’s V-8 managed an EPA-rated 15 mpg city and 24 mpg highway (automatic transmission), and that’s still true in today’s car. The Mustang GT with the six-speed manual transmission gets 14 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse is the least careful about its gas, getting just 14 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. On our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, a GT model with a six-speed manual transmission achieved 24 mpg; The Ecoboost model with automatic transmission delivered 32 mpg.

2025 Ford Mustang : Safety

The 2025 Mustang also has more driver-assist technology than rival pony cars, so you can go faster and feel safer. Every Mustang comes with a Ford Co-Pilot360. Crash test results will be available at the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). 2025 Ford Mustang GTD key safety features include adaptive cruise control, active pothole mitigation, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning.
