The 2025 Ford Fusion is a mid-size automobile manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company. Unfortunately, Fusion fell victim to Ford’s effort to move away from the auto market in favor of SUVs and trucks. The SEL model represents a well-equipped and affordable trim in the Fusion lineup. Buyers looking for an all-wheel drive model will have to switch to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Other highlights include the Sync 3 infotainment system, Ford’s Co-Pilot360 driver safety package, and heated front seats.

Inside, the Ford Fusion‘s multiple interior trims are attractive and in line with what the rest of the class has to offer, but drivers of the base model can feel like they’re getting a raw deal if they step up to the richly appointed Platinum model. The gasoline-powered Fusion carries as much cargo as most competitors, but hybrid and plug-in-hybrid models sacrifice a lot of space for battery packs in the trunk. The Fusion Energi tested held about two carry-on bags in its trunk, while the standard Fusion held six. The infotainment options in the Fusion series span from the last decade to the present. It’s the base model, but Ford’s Sync 3 system is also available on other trims, and we found it intuitive and reasonably responsive. Designed to rely on touch inputs and voice commands, the Sync 3 system is easy to navigate.

The 2025 Ford Fusion is powered by a 175-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder capable of six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The six-speed continues on petrol-powered models from Fusion. Both are available in four-cylinder, 181 hp turbocharged 1.5 liters or 245 hp turbocharged 2.0 liter, top trims. The 2.0-liter engine can be paired with all-wheel drive. The Fusion is available as a hybrid with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor that together produce 195 horsepower. There’s also a plug-in-hybrid Fusion, which has the same drivetrain as the wireless hybrid and saves for a larger battery pack that allows up to 21 miles of electric-only driving per charge.

The Fusion’s powertrains cover everything from four-cylinder engines to a plug-in hybrid with a double-digit EV range. Relying on turbocharged petrol engines in most versions could mean drivers have a hard time mimicking EPA fuel economy figures in the real world. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Ford Fusion the highest good rating in five crash tests and the lowest bad for how well the headlights illuminate the road ahead. IIHS uses various measurements to calculate collision avoidance features. This sedan received the highest Superior rating for its standard vehicle-to-vehicle frontal collision avoidance system.
