2025 Scion FR-S
The 2025 Scion FR-S is a lightweight 2+2 rear-wheel drive sports coupe sold in North America. The Scion FR-S 2025, jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, is similar to the Subaru BRZ and the Toyota GT86 internationally. The Scion FR-S is a rear-wheel drive sports coupe jointly developed by Subaru and sold by Scion before the product was discontinued.
The Scion FR-S was replaced by the Toyota 86 (2025 Toyota GR86 ) and its twin, the 2025 Subaru BRZ, which continued to offer the same compact, rear-wheel drive sports coupe formula. The interior can feel cramped and basic, with very small rear seats. The FR-S prioritized handling and driving over horses.
A six-speed manual transmission was standard, with a six-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters available as an option. The FR-S came standard with a Torsen limited-slip differential. The Scion FRS was discontinued after 2016, leading to the car being rebranded as the Toyota 86.
2025 Scion FR-S : Interior
Inside, the interior of the 2025 Scion FR-S is a minimalist, driver-focused space that prioritizes functionality and road connectivity over premium appointments. The layout is almost identical to its sister vehicle, the 2025 Subaru BRZ, with a compact, cockpit-like cabin with supportive, cushioned front seats designed to hold passengers firmly when cornering. Centrally-mounted analogue tachometer dominates the instrument cluster, with smaller speedo and auxiliary gauges located next to it. The standard models, materials are adequate, with reviewers often noting the mix of black plastics, faux carbon fiber dashboard trim, and stiff, suede-like fabric on the seats.
The 2+2 seating configuration includes a rear bench, but is generally considered too small for adults and is better used for extra storage space. Although the trunk offers 6.9 cubic feet of space, the rear seats can be folded down to significantly increase cargo capacity, making it surprisingly efficient for hauling things like a set of track tires. Overall, the interior of the 2025 FR-S provides a better-focused, back-to-basics driving experience with a premium special edition that adds a layer of comfort and style without sacrificing the car’s performance-centric philosophy.
2025 Scion FR-S : Entine
The Scion FR-S is powered by a naturally aspirated, horizontally opposed four-cylinder “box” engine developed in partnership between Toyota and Subaru. This engine design, also found in the Subaru BRZ, is key to the car’s efficiency and low center of gravity. It uses Toyota’s D-4S fuel injection system, which combines port and direct fuel injection, contributing to its responsiveness and smoothness. The engine was rated at 200 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 151 pound-feet of torque at 6,600 rpm for most model years, and was paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Although its power output is considered modest for a sports car, the high-torque nature of the engine and its placement have been improved to prioritize handling and a driver-focused experience over straight-line speed.
2025 Scion FR-S : Safety
The Scion FR-S is generally well-respected for its safety, earning a 5-star rating from the NHTSA and earning “Good” scores in several IIHS crash tests, including front center overlap, impact, and roof strength tests. FR-S comes standard with the Toyota Star™ Safety System, which includes features such as ABS, Traction Control (TRAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Brake Assist (BA), designed to help drivers avoid accidents. Other standard safety features include dual front airbags, front seat side airbags, and full-length side airbags for front and rear passengers. Scion FR-S 2025 key safety features include advanced dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags, front seat-mounted airbags, and front and rear side curtain airbags, Star Safety System™, anti-lock braking system, traction control, vehicle stability control, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, and smart stopping technology, which reduces braking distance by applying the brakes when the accelerator is released.
