2022 Saab 9-5

The 2022 Saab 9-5 is an executive car produced by the Swedish automaker Saab from 1997 to 2012.  The standard equipment levels of the Saab 9-5 include leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing ön cam wipers, a cooled glovebox, a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, and a nine-speaker audio system. The Saab 9-5 Turbo4 Premium trim and above adds power-folding and auto-dimming side mirrors, three-zone climate control, keyless entry, remote start, push-button ignition, and park sensors.

The Saab 9-5 is flawed in many ways, but there is hope under the attractive sheet metal. Like its neighbors at Volvo, Saab can offer a quality interior. For current and modified models, fans of the brand’s past will likely take a chance on the 9-5. However, the Infiniti M37 and Audi A6 need to be quite underwhelming in terms of style alone to fend off similarly priced competition. The Saab 9-5 charges significantly more than the similarly equipped all-wheel-drive Mercedes E-Series and BMW 5 Series sedans.

Inside, the Aero’s driving comfort won’t improve until further down the interior, equipment level, and pricing table, depending on how the XWD is equipped. Cheap black plastic makes up most of the dashboard, instrument panel, and control stack. It’s a clear sign that the car was designed years before GM started putting fancy interiors on vehicles like the Chevy Equinox and Cruze.

Fortunately, the doors and front and rear seats are covered in rich-looking and rich-feeling leather, an upgrade over other trim levels. The seats are generally on the firm side, but I found them quite comfortable. A longer editor complained that he couldn’t adjust his seat frame properly. Other editors said the sofa base is not wide enough. That’s why test drives were invented. The back seat is too big. The 38.8-inch legroom is the best in the competition and received rave reviews from passengers in real-world tests.

Two small things every automaker should emulate are outstanding cup holders and an adjustable center armrest. Cup holders use a simple hinge that folds down to convert a large space perfect for airing lattes to the perfect size for a can of soda. The adjustable armrest moves forward and upward with a single movement and is covered in the same rich leather as the seats.

The Saab 9-5 will be offered with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and front-wheel drive or a turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6 and four-wheel drive. The Aero trim for 2010 comes with a turbo V-6 and four-wheel drive. The Aero also offers 19-inch wheels and a 10-millimeter lowering of the vehicle, along with more aggressive shock absorbers and struts.

The Saab 9-5 comes standard with a series of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, and brake pedals. As of this writing, the 2022 Saab 9-5 has not been crashing tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Institute or the Highway Safety Institute.
