The 2025 Kia EV9 is a mid-size, all-electric SUV produced by KIA Motors. The EV9 is one of the first truly family-friendly EV options, and from first impressions, it looks like a slam dunk. The 2025 Kia EV9 has three rows, an open interior, and fast charging features. The EV9 comes with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive; the latter has a 379 hp twin-motor powertrain. The all-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive models of the Long Range have a 99.8 kWh battery that the EPA estimates provides 304 miles of range in a single-vehicle setup.

The standard rear-wheel drive EV9 has a 76.1 kWh battery and an EPA-estimated range of 230 miles. Its large size comes with a maximum towing capacity of 5000 kilograms; this is the same large capacity as gas-powered Telluride. The Middlevel Wind trim seems to offer the most value, unlocking a more powerful powertrain that pulls 379 horsepower to the wheels. The EV9 also comes with desirable standard features such as second-row captain’s chairs, a heat pump for the climate control system, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a host of driver aids.

The EV9 can be ordered in six or seven-passenger configurations, depending on whether the second row has captain or bench seats. In the higher EV9 trim levels, the third row is a power fold. In the model we drove, the front seats were firmly padded and most of the synthetic upholstery looked cheap. Hopefully, that’s not the case for the US-spec models. The EV9’s second-row captain’s chairs are very similar to the previous ones and offer heating, ventilation, and massage. The third row in the back can easily accommodate adults but requires the occupants of the second row to make some compromises to provide comfortable legroom.

Inside the EV9 are 12.3-inch screens, one for the instrument cluster and one for infotainment, and a dedicated HVAC gauge in the middle. The EV9 has no physical buttons, and its buttons are pared down compared to other Kias on sale today, leaving only a few important HVAC controls and a volume knob, and touch-sensitive controls built into the dash to jump to different menus. The EV9 uses a completely new generation infotainment system, and the details of this system are being kept secret until the new three-row system is revealed.

The EV9 is available in rear-wheel-drive lightweight trims with a single rear electric motor producing 215 horsepower. The Light Long Range version is also rear-wheel drive. But with the addition of a larger battery, the maximum power drops to 201 horsepower. All-wheel-drive models have dual-motor tuning for a combined 379 horsepower, and an available Boost mode increases peak torque output and delivers quicker acceleration. The EV9 electric takes two seconds longer to reach Telluride in 60 seconds. A performance-oriented GT model will be added for the 2025 model year and is capable of producing 576 horsepower.

The entry-level Light model comes with a 76.1 kWh battery that provides an EPA-estimated driving range of 230 miles. The Light Long Range model and e-AWD versions have a larger pack of 99.8 kWh. The Light Long Range model is rated by the EPA for up to 304 miles of driving per charge; Wind in AWD and Land in AWD models are rated at 280 miles. Compatible with the top GT series trim drops the range to 270 miles per charge. Each EV9 uses Kia’s 800-volt electric architecture, which allows fast DC chargers to quickly recharge the battery. The EPA estimates that the EV9 is capable of 80 to 89 MPGe, depending on the powertrain used.

2025 KIA EV9 : Safety

The KIA EV9 comes with several standard driver assistance features, including systems such as blind spot monitoring and automatic emergency braking. Kia also offers a hands-free driving mode along with a more advanced version of adaptive cruise control. But this is only for the EV9 GT-Line. EV9 crash test results will be available on the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Safety KIA EV9 includes blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
