The 2025 BMW i5 is an electric car model produced by the German automaker BMW. The 2025 BMW i5 had announced plans to introduce the i5 as part of their “i” series of electric vehicles. The BMW i5 was expected to be an electric vehicle (EV) in the BMW i-series lineup, following the BMW i3 and BMW i8. BMW had plans to expand its electric vehicle offerings in response to the growing demand for electric cars. The i5 is up against a growing number of midsize luxury electric cars being built to appeal to buyers looking for eco-friendly choices. These include the Genesis Electrified G80 and Mercedes-Benz EQE, as well as the powerful models of the segment such as the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.

Like these two four-door EVs, the BMW i5 is expected to blend driving pleasure with luxurious comfort. Two powertrains are coming, starting with the 335-horsepower rear-wheel-drive eDrive40 model. The dual-motor M60 xDrive increases horsepower to a mighty 590 ponies and provides all-wheel drive traction. We had the chance to drive a prototype of the latter in France and came away impressed by its athleticism and pleased with its in-car technology features.

Inside, the cabin of the BMW i5 is as spacious and luxurious as that of the gasoline 5 series. Leather upholstery is still available, and BMW is introducing a new faux leather upholstery on the i5 called Veganza; A set of glass interior controls is also available and adds a stylish touch to the sedan’s cabin. Heated and ventilated massaging front seats are optional on the eDrive40 and standard on the M60 xDrive.

The i5’s dashboard is dominated by a large, curved panel that includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument display as well as a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 interface is easy to use and can be updated via over-the-air updates if needed. A head-up display is optional, but all models come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-car navigation, a wireless smartphone charging pad, a Harman/Kardon stereo system, and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.

BMW offered two i5 models are offered, starting with the 335-hp eDrive40, which drives the rear wheels with a single electric motor. A hotter M60 xDrive model adds a second electric motor to the front axle, delivering a total of 590 hp. eDrive40 and M60 models, and we estimate that the more powerful of the two powertrains can propel the i5 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. M60 models also come with active anti-roll bars, sporty suspension tuning, wider tires, and rear-wheel steering, all aimed at giving the car a more athletic feel.

Beneath the i5’s floorboards is an 84.3-kWh battery pack, which BMW says holds enough charge to power the eDrive40 model for 295 miles between charges. The dual-motor M60 model is less efficient and has an estimated range of 256 miles per charge. BMW i5 car’s battery pack can be connected to DC fast charging stations, and it is said that with such a connection it can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in 30 minutes. Speaking of charging, BMW will offer three years of free 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America charging stations with each BMW i5. The most efficient i5 model is the eDrive40, which scores as high as 105 MPGe highway, M60 xDrive rated 86 MPGe highway, and i5 on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route update this story with test results.

BMW always equips its cars with advanced safety technologies including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The 2025 BMW i5 may also offer features like blind-spot monitoring and a surround-view camera system to enhance driver awareness and safety.
