However, the most famous engine in the model’s history is the Yamaha-designed V6 used in the original Taurus SHO (Super High Output); a high-revving 3.0L unit with a 7,000 rpm redline and a unique multi-length intake manifold that is often described as a “work of art.” In later years, the SHO transformed the large sedan into a highly efficient “hidden beast,” switching to a more powerful 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine that delivered 365 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive.

The base engine is a 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that produces 239 horsepower and 382 Nm of torque, mated to a modern 8-speed automatic transmission. For the first time, there is also a Taurus Hybrid variant, which combines a 1.5L gasoline engine with an electric motor to produce 185 horsepower. The hybrid system significantly improves fuel economy, achieving up to 23.4 km/l compared to the fuel-inefficient V6 engines of the past.
