Most Grand Cherokees have a rear or four-wheel drive, with the exception of the SRT and Trailhawk. These trims are standard with all performance-oriented wheel systems. All Grand Cherokee have an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers one of the most versatile lines for a mid-size SUV.

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L three-lane crossover SUV is developed on a separate platform from the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee Uconnect interface features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are many charging options for front and rear passengers. The performance of some advanced driving vehicles is sluggish. For example, flexible cruise control and blind warning, both of which are very sensitive to our taste. The first two rows, which have a large cargo area at the back, easily carry five adults. The interior sole trim isn’t particularly impressive, but the luxury models go the distance against more expensive competitors. The driver and front passengers get support buckets that are deeper and clearer in performance models.

Inside, there is a 17.2-cubic-foot cargo compartment behind the third row, which expands to 46.9 cubic feet when the third row is lowered, and 84.6 cubic feet when both rows are lowered. That’s about a cubic foot less than a Ford Explorer. The Grand Cherokee L’s third-row foot room is even tighter; At 30.3 inches, this is about two inches shorter than the Explorer and its narrow third row. Fortunately, the Grand Cherokee L’s list of standard safety features is much wider than previous Jeep cars. Automatic emergency braking at all speeds with pedestrian detection, cruise adjustment, active motion control, blind monitor and rear stop sensors is produced as standard. Night vision and ambient camera system, digital rearview mirror and parking assistance are optional. The most innovative feature of the safety, the car-free steering system, will be available in the 2022 model year.

An optional choice would be the Hemi 5.7-liter V-8, where 357 horsepower. Cherokee is available in all trims except Laredo. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Jeep hinted at a hybrid powertrain for the Grand Cherokee L next year, but it will all be gas in at least the first model year.

The four-wheel drive is compatible with each of the four trim levels, but the Jeep offers three 4×4 systems: the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II. The most powerful Quadra-Drive II system will be optional in Overland and standard on Summit models. This is the system you need for serious traffic with a 2-speed active transmission and rear electronic limited slip differential. Each of the 4WD systems separates the front axle, which often controls the rear wheel of the Grand Cherokee L, which should help save a bit.
