The 2025 GMC Canyon or 2025 Chevrolet Colorado is a series of compact pickup trucks marketed by American automaker General Motors. The GMC Canyon is available in crew cab short bed configuration with your choice of four trim levels: Elevation, AT4, AT4X, and Denali, powered by a turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four paired exclusively with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Elevation comes standard with two-wheel drive, and true low-range all-wheel drive is optional on this trim and standard on the AT4, AT4X, and Denali. The 310-hp GMC Canyon gets a new AT4X trim similar to the Chevy ZR2, empowering the Jimmy with significantly more off-road capability. The AT4X becomes a serious contender against the most off-road focused versions of rivals such as the Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Gladiator, and Ford Ranger. The AT4X uses the ZR2’s Multimatic spool-valve shock absorbers, locking front and rear differentials, and an upgraded suspension with available 33-inch all-terrain tires. These small, midsize trucks went so far as to borrow tools from models like the Sierra and Silverado 1500, from which the Canyon’s 310-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine comes. The eight-speed automatic transmission is the only transmission, leaving the Jeep Gladiator and Toyota Tacoma as the only midsize trucks to offer manual transmissions. The Canyon’s interior differs from Colorado’s with differences in dashboard design, materials, and trim accents.

GMC brought some much-needed technology into the Canyon. Available equipment includes underbody cameras, a head-up display, and a complete redesign of the Canyon’s cabin, similar to how Chevy updated the new Colorado’s interior. A new digital instrument cluster sits behind a new steering wheel, and the shifter is now closer to the passenger side of the cabin, providing room for the drive mode selector. GMC even moved those precious cup holders to a deeper compartment, closer to the driver and passenger. The Elevation and AT4 trims have an 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster, while the Denali and AT4X have a larger 11.0-inch display.

Every Canyon gets a stylish 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen; This makes them all Wi-Fi hotspot capable and wireless Android Auto and Apply CarPlay compatible. Wireless phone charging is available on the AT4 trim but is standard on the Denali and AT4X. GM’s Hitch View and Hitch Guidance system, which makes finding a willing trailer tongue much easier, is standard even on the lower Height trim level. The 360-degree camera is standard only on the Denali and AT4X but is available on the two lowest trim levels for extra money.

2025 Canyon has a 6-foot, 2-inch bed large enough to meet the needs of most hardware stores. The Canyon’s only body style is available, the Crew Cab, which can seat up to five people. The front seats are large and comfortable, and it’s easy to find a good driving position. The rear seats are also roomy and should be able to fit three children or two adults relatively comfortably. For installing child safety seats, two complete sets of LATCH connectors are available for the rear outboard seats and one tether anchor for the rear middle seat.

The GMC Canyon comes with a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produces plenty of torque for its size. Keeping most of its power low in the RPM band allows this engine to cruise the Canyon with ease, even when towing and hauling. The new GMC Canyon has a maximum towing capacity of 7,700 pounds for the Elevation, AT4, and Denali trim levels. That rating drops to 6000 pounds for the Canyon AT4X, or 5500 pounds for the AT4X when optioned with the Edition 1 package. AWD has an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, slightly below-average fuel economy for a compact pickup truck. Canyon models equipped with all-wheel drive see those figures drop to 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.

GMC‘s list of driver assistance features for the Canyon is part of the standard Pro Safety package. Crash test results are available on the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key safety features likely include Adaptive cruise control, rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking with rear cross-traffic alert, teen driving mode, surround-view camera system, lane keep assist, and forward swerve with pedestrian detection.
