The 2023 Jeep Renegade is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by FCA US under the Jeep brand. The 2023 Jeep Renegade is a versatile subcompact SUV that doesn’t offer the off-road capability of its much more famous Jeep sibling, the Jeep Wrangler but outperforms many of its rivals in wet and muddy conditions. Renegade comes at a higher price point than rivals like the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Mazda CX-30, especially when adding nice-to-have features, but some optional packages make the Renegade a unique Jeep.

2023 Renegade Trailhawk trim comes with an upgraded suspension and all-terrain tires. The 2023 Jeep offers some adventure and versatility in an easy-to-use package. It may not be the most comprehensive or affordable option for a subcompact SUV, but the Renegade is appealing to the right buyer. While the 2023 Renegade may rise with the brand’s reputation and sleek features like the available removable sunroof, it’s best suited for those who put those features first.

The 2023 Renegade Jeep family calls the previously standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine too long and remains the only engine with the more torquey turbo-four. Jeep is also modernizing the range with fewer trim levels, but what’s new is the (RED) Edition and an Altitude package with glossy black exterior elements and distinctive interior accents. Instead of the standard 7.0-inch touchscreen, the entry-level Renegade Sport and Latitude now come with a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with built-in navigation. The top-of-the-line Limited also gets a revised grille and 18-inch wheels, among other things.

2023 Jeep Renegade : Interior

The Jeep Renegade combines adventure-seeking driving with some fun interior touches. Build quality is decent for the segment, and the overall design is satisfying, if not the flashiest. However, a good amount of outside road and wind noise gets into the cabin. The Renegade’s seats clearly do yoga stretching exercises, as they have no problem folding flat to create a flat load floor. But even then, the area is average at best. Limited storage pockets and the lack of a full-length door compartment at the front limit storage opportunities compared to other vehicles in the segment.

The Renegade’s infotainment system runs through an 8.4-inch touchscreen that supports the excellent Uconnect interface. Each system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, onboard navigation, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Jeep also offers a more powerful Kenwood sound system on select models. However, the door opening is wide and square, allowing you to place large items without difficulty. Loading heavy loads over the low bumper and floor is also easy. The second row folds down to create a maximum of 50.8 cubic feet of space, which is slightly more average for the classroom.

2023 Jeep Renegade : Engine

The Jeep Renegade comes standard with a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine, good for 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. That latter number is crucial to keep the little Jeep moving fast, but overall, this isn’t a fast SUV. 2023 Renegade may take some time to accelerate to higher speeds and take a few seconds to make transitions or merge maneuvers on the highway. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard, and the tendency to search for the right gears when you need access to more turbo power or are slow to shift is a laughing stock.

The Jeep 2023 Renegade is rated at up to 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. These values are for the front-wheel-drive model; all-wheel drive drops those figures to 22 and 27 mpg, respectively. With an all-wheel-drive model, we saw 29 mpg on our 75-mile fuel economy route, which is part of our extensive testing program. Still, that lags behind stingy rivals like Soul and Nissan Kicks, which both earned 37 mpg.

2023 Jeep Renegade : Safety

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Renegade four stars and an overall safety rating of four out of five in frontal and side crash tests. The front-wheel-drive Renegade received four stars in the rollover test, while the all-wheel-drive model received three stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety did not crash-test the Jeep Renegade but gave the similar 2022 Jeep Renegade the highest Good rating in four crash tests, the second-highest Acceptable rating in the passenger-side small overlap pretest, and the second-lowest Marginal rating in the side test. 2023 Jeep Renegade safety features include Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear view camera, automatic parking assist, emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic high-beam headlights, fontal collision, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning.
