Both current DBX models are powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, sourced from Mercedes-AMG but extensively re-engined by Aston Martin. The DBX is known for its impressive body control and agility, unusual for an SUV of its size. Owners can customize their interior through a variety of areas, choosing specific stitching, trim, and material combinations, including new options such as fabric made from 80% wool.

In terms of technology, the 2027 DBX features a new, improved Aston Martin entertainment system, a significant upgrade over the previous unit from Mercedes. The system strikes a balance between digital commands and physical controls by retaining physical buttons for key functions such as climate control, gear selection, and drive modes, located on a newly designed floating center console. Although the engine’s basic design is derived from Mercedes-AMG (specifically the M177 unit), Aston Martin has made extensive internal modifications to the powerplant, including custom tuning, revised engine mapping, and specific intake/exhaust systems to achieve a unique sound profile and power delivery tailored to the brand’s character. This tuning ensures that the DBX offers an exciting and personalized driving experience in keeping with the brand’s sports car heritage, along with a sophisticated all-wheel drive system and 9-speed automatic transmission.

In the high-performance DBX707 and DBX S models, this V8 engine has been boosted to exceptional levels, making it among the most powerful SUVs on the market. In these top models, the engine produces a unique 697 bhp (707 PS) in the DBX707, and an even more powerful 717 bhp (727 PS) in the DBX S, along with 663-664 lb-ft of torque. To cope with this increased power, Aston Martin has upgraded its transmission to a 9-speed “wet clutch” unit, which allows faster gear changes and higher torque handling compared to a conventional automatic torque transmission. This powerful engineering allows both models to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds.

The 2027 Aston Martin DBX has not been crash-tested by major third-party agencies such as Euro NCAP or NHTSA due to its high-volume, low-volume production status, meaning it has no official government safety rating. However, the car is built on a custom-built, extruded and welded aluminum monocoque body shell designed for maximum structural strength and features a full suite of passive safety features, including front, knee, thorax and curtain airbags, as well as ISOFIX child seat anchor points. The luxury SUV makes up for its lack of a public crash rating with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), many of which come from its technology partnership with Mercedes-Benz.
