Lotus Cars is a British sports and racing car manufacturer renowned for its engineering philosophy: “Make it simple, then add light.” Headquartered in Hethel, Norfolk, the brand has evolved from producing traditional analogue sports cars to a new range of fully electric cars and luxury lifestyle vehicles. Founded in 1948 by engineer Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman, Lotus gained fame not only for its reliance on engine power but also for its incredible agility and handling. Chapman observed that a lightweight car accelerates quickly, brakes in short distances, and corners with great precision.

Philosophy is reflected in the famous yellow-green Lotus logo, which features its initials (A.C.B.C.). Lotus holds a significant place in the history of Formula 1. Founded in 1954, Team Lotus pioneered many of the aerodynamic and mechanical innovations that are seen in modern racing, such as monocoque chassis designs and ground-effect aerodynamics. Before retiring from the sport in the mid-1990s, the Lotus team won multiple Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships, carving out legends such as Jim Clark and Ayrton Senna in motorsport history.

In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Lotus produced some of the most impressive, pure driverless cars ever made. The square-shaped Lotus Esprit, made famous in the James Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me,” and the pure sports cars Elise, Exige, and Evora prioritized driver feedback above all else. In 2017, a majority stake in Lotus was acquired by Chinese automaker Geely.

This led to a major shift in the brand. Today, the company’s portfolio includes the multi-million-euro Lotus Evija electric hypercar, the Lotus Eletre (an electric luxury SUV), and the Lotus  Emeya (an electric sedan). The Lotus  Emeya, the ultimate internal combustion engine sports car, bridges the gap between the brand’s heritage and its modern, electric future.
