Previously (1997-2002, S4 B5), Audi S4 was powered by a 2.7L 30-valve V6 block, supercharged by two turbochargers.
The Audi S4 B7 is much more recent since it was redesigned last time in 2005. Although Audi classifies it as “new car”, the differences between it and the outgoing S4 B6 are mainly aesthetic; It debuts for the first time the “single frame”, new grille of the current Audi.
The name Audi S4 was originally used to designate high-performance sports versions of the Audi 100, later it was used for the same modifications of the Audi A4. Manufactured at the Audi AG plant in Ingolstadt ( Germany ), the Audi S4 was available in the following bodies: a five-door five-seat wagon, a four-door five-seater, and a two-door four- seater convertible. In all models, the engine is located in front in the longitudinal direction. Like all models of the Audi S-series, the 2018 S4 is only available with the all- wheel drive Quattro system.
The modern Audi S4 is the most high-tech car in the class. Permanent all-wheel drive, active rear differential, active steering, robotic gearbox with two clutches and a compressor engine are the distinguishing features of this car. A special feature of the engine is the Roots compressor located behind the throttle, which reduces the losses to its drive in the partial load mode. All this makes it possible to achieve a high liter output (111 hp per liter), good economy (13.5 l./100km in the mixed cycle) and clear responses to the pressure pedal.
