The standard engine for the 2016 Jeep Compass is a unit 4-cylinder 2.0-liter that produces 158 horsepower and 141 lb-ft of torque. Optional for the lower trim levels and standard for the Compass Limited is a motor 4-cylinder 2.4-liter that produces 172 horsepower and 165 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is a standard on Compass Sport, while the width and Limited get the 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard but two options are available for all 2016 Compass 4WD. Freedom Drive I 4WD offers full-time and a lock for improved traction when needed. Freedom Drive II is a 4WD system that includes an off-road package: All-terrain tires, the height of the raised box, fuel tank skid plate, tow hooks, and a full-size spare wheel. The off-road package also includes hill start assistance, hill descent control, differential lock and a continuously variable transmission.
