Unfortunately short of the ability and commitment that we all wanted it to be as desperate, the 500 is no match for the obvious retro rival, the Mini. Even in 2017 Fiat Abarth trim, this is not the attitude that the Cooper so compelling make, with the driver sitting too high and feel of both chassis and tender.
